== Trama ==
Dunston Leech vorrebbe sposare Kate Heathcote, la pupilla di sua madre, ma la giovane gli preferisce Richard Blunt, un insegnante che lavora presso la famiglia come istitutore di Cecil, il suo fratellastro che lui uccide, avvelenandolo. Richard, allora, chiede a Kate di sposarlo e di partire subito con lui per il Sud Africa, dove i due si recano accompagnati da tre ex-acrobati. In Africa, Dunston riesce a rapire Kathe con il bambino che ha avuto da Richard, ma la donna riesce a fuggire, salvata dall'intervento del marito e dei tre acrobati. Ritornata in Inghilterra, Kate riceve dalla madre di Cecil una scatola d'argento che contiene una siringa. Dunston, sapendo che quella è la siringa che gli è servita per avvelenare il fratellastro, se ne impadronisce ma viene preso dalla polizia. Senza via di scampo, l'uomo si uccide usando l'ago per iniettarsi una dose letale di morfina.

Trama
Unscrupulous gambler and drug addict Dunstan Leech has embezzled money entrusted to him. Hoping to cover the theft he plans to wed his mother’s ward Kate Heathcote, who is tutor to his disabled brother Cecil, only to discover she loves Richard Blunt. Unhinged, due to his drug use, he poisons his brother’s food to clear the way to an inheritance while his equally dishonest mother Mrs. Jelf attempts to frame Blunt for theft. That plan fails and Kate & Richard marry departing for the diamond mines of South Africa. Obsessed, Leech follows and kidnaps Kate and the couple’s child fleeing back to England pursued by Richard. Held hostage at Leech’s estate, his dying mother gives Kate the evidence to prove Dunstan’s culpability in Cecil’s slaying but driven mad with guilt and haunted by Cecil’s spirit he commits suicide, and the young family are reunited.
