Ο Τζον Σκάιλερ, ένας διακεκριμένος Αμερικανός δικηγόρος, στέλνεται στην Αγγλία σε διπλωματική αποστολή. Στο πλοίο τον ακολουθεί μια μοιραία γυναίκα που σκοπεύει να προσκολληθεί σ' αυτόν, για να εκδικηθεί τη γυναίκα του που κάποτε της φέρθηκε υποτιμητικά.
