== Synopsis ==
Owen et Ernest Wharton, les fils de James Wharton, propriétaire d'une usine, s'intéressent à deux des employées de leur père. Owen tombe amoureux de Mary, alors qu'Ernest, un homme à femmes, fait d'Amy, la sœur de Mary, sa maîtresse. Une troisième sœur, Jane, atteinte de tuberculose, est de plus en plus malade, quand Mary demande à James de l'argent pour la soigner, il refuse. Ayant entendu parler de son problème, Ernest offre de l'argent à Mary, mais seulement si elle devient sa maîtresse. De colère, Mary le force à se marier avec Amy, sous la menace d'une arme. Pendant ce temps, Owen, rendu inconscient par un accident, demande après Mary. James la supplie de voir Owen, mais avant d'accepter Mary lui fait promettre d'améliorer les conditions de travail inhumaines dans l'usine. Owen se rétablit et va finalement se marier avec Mary. Le mariage a fait d'Ernest un mari dévoué et James tient sa promesse à propos des conditions de travail.

Terrain
Louise (Pickford) is a sewing-machine girl in a sweatshop in New York City. She lives together with her sisters Amy (Loretta Blake) and Jane (Dorothy West) and are all deprived by bad conditions at work and sickness. Louise tries for the three of them to survive and regards herself as the keeper of her sisters. Meanwhile, she stands up to her bosses and complains about the dreadful circumstances they work in. When Amy is seduced by the son of the shop-owner, Louise butts in and stops the romance. He eventually abandons Amy and becomes seriously injured in a cave-in. Louise has a secret crush on the son herself and tries to rescue him, hoping he will admit he loves her. The film is inspired by the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, which took place in 1911. The only version of the film is a nitrate print in the Cinematheque Francaise, but only the first half remains.
